Hello family, friends, teachers, and the world,

This letter is to inform you of my digital portfolio/blog, where I am now posting my work. I am taking a course called 21st Century Literacy. The dictionary defines literacy as the ability to read and write. However, 21st Century Literacy is the dictionary definition of literacy, with the addition of technology and how technology is shaping the different types of literacy. My 21st Century Literacy course is a combination of Business, English, and Technology. I am posting my work online to document and showcase my learning, and to be possibly noticed by a professional in this field. The positive outcome of posting my work online and being noticed by a professional is the possible opportunities that could be given to me. Please visit, comment, and share my blog. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sofia Muhammad

Heart Attack, A Poem.

I stood there,
Seeing him struggle before my eyes,
I wanted to aid him,
Despite all his lies.

Even though I would be breaking my number one rule,
I couldn't just stand there,
Watching like a fool.

I made an important choice,
And at that moment,
I slipped through,
Even though I wasn't supposed to.

He told me it was over,
That there’s no tomorrow,
It filled my heart with sorrow.

I stopped for a moment,
And remembered what he did to me.
He broke my heart,
Even at the start,
Felt the flames burning in my heart

And then he stopped
I stopped too
He said that there was nothing i could do

Then he fell to the ground,
And didn’t make a sound

His soul will be gone,
We won't see him at dawn.

Thats what happened
To stupid little Shawn

Summary and Explanation
“Heart Attack” is a poem about a guy named Shawn who cheats on this girl. Shawn has a heart attack and the girl wants to help him until she remembers what he did to her, so she just sits there and watches him die.

My Inspiration
This poem was inspired by Gord Downie because his poems always carry such meaning. (Even though this poem isn't something that I can personally relate to.) I utilized imagery and allusions as Gord Downie does.

I Am A Leader

I, Sofia, am a leader. I am a leader because I am able to speak in front of others, calmly share my ideas, and communicate well. I prefer to have input from others because I like to collect the opinions and ideas of others.
Communication is a key factor in leadership and I personally do not struggle communicating my ideas and strategies. Without communication, everything would be chaotic and nothing would get accomplished.
Another quality that I, as a leader, possess is time management. I do not like to procrastinate, I am very organized, and I complete tasks right away. Time management is a quality that every effective leader should have because without managing your time, you and your group will not make any quality progress.
I am an effective leader because I use a skill called “Trisk”. Trisk is a combination of trust and risk. This quality is important because you need to be able to trust your followers and as a leader, you must take risks in order to succeed. I believe that “Trisk” is my strongest quality because (as I mentioned earlier) I prefer to have input of opinions and ideas. By using the ideas of others, I am trusting them. As for the risk component, I do not find that I struggle doing so. For example, in Red Pine Leadership Camp, the Trisk exercises we did were the exercises that came most easily to me.

I am a leader because I possess quality skills such as communication, time management, trust, and risk. I am comforted by the input of others, however, I do not have an issue with taking charge and giving my strategy. Trisk is my strongest quality as a leader.

What Can We Teach The World

Every time we watch the news or listen to the radio, we are always presented with the same terrible news and stories. All of these stories are surrounding war, violence, and disaster. Not a day goes by when something terrible does not take place. At the moment, not everywhere in the world is a peaceful place. Teaching the world about keeping peace is so important. There are people watching their loved ones die, people who are fleeing their countries, and children who are growing up in a place of violence. There is no reason that is good enough for these terrible things to happen to such innocent people. When we teach others about the situations that pull us further away from world peace, we become one step closer to solving the issue. When we teach others, we inspire them to think about the topic. We inspire them to want to help. We inspire them to make a difference. Another benefit that will come from teaching others is bringing attention to the issue.
Our technology and thinking have been improved with innovation, but why is it that world peace is something that has not been achieved yet? Every generation is experiencing more violence and suffering than the next. Science and technology have had a very beneficial impact, however it has been a “material” impact, meaning our humanitarian issues still remain; such as conflict, fear, and suffering. Some believe that if we encourage stronger religion practices, world peace can begin to take action. In my opinion, this theory is untrue because difference in religion has been causing conflict.

Teaching the world about world peace will be so beneficial. Together we will be able to aid and invent ways that we can become one step closer to world peace. Innocent people everyday are dying for reasons that have been repeating themselves since the beginning of time. Together, we can make the world a better place.
